Archdiocese of Boston Plan for safely resuming Masses at the beginning of Phase One

05-20-2020Pastor's LetterRev. Richard W. Fitzgerald, V. F.

Dear Friends and Parishioners:

The last time I emailed you, we were waiting to hear news of when we can reopen the church for public Mass. Well, as most of you know, we can reopen which is great news, but it is conditioned by some stringent parameters that we have to meet for the safety of all involved. While the order to close has been lifted, the Virus still remains! Below is a rather lengthy document which explains all we must do to insure that we meet the requirements to reopen. I strongly urge you to read the entire document so you can get a complete understanding of what has to be done. For members of our Spanish speaking community, we hope to soon send you a Spanish version of the document.

Re-Opening Guidance on Preparations and Requirements

Given the time we will need and the logistics required to prepare for and monitor each Mass, we will resume public Mass at St. Columbkille Church with the celebration of the Feast of Pentecost on the weekend of May 30/31. Pentecost is an appropriate weekend since it is the Feast in which we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and which traditionally has been celebrated as the birthday of the Church. In order to fulfill the requirements to reopen, we will probably require a change to the Mass schedule for Sunday mornings and weekdays at least through the summer. I hope to send you another email within a couple of days with any details in that regard.

In the meantime, we must assemble a large team of volunteers to make everything happen so we can smoothly and safely celebrate together at Mass. It is anticipated that each weekend through the summer we will need at least 6 volunteers at each Mass to guide people as they enter church, help people to know where they may sit, provide means for sanitizing hands, answering questions, and cleaning the church which is required after every Mass. Without the necessary volunteers we cannot be certified to reopen the church. I am confident that at St. Columbkille's, enough people will "step up to the plate". If you would like to be a volunteer you may email our Transitional Deacon, Matt Norwood, Deacon.norwood@gmail.com. You will be contacted about training and details of what you must do as a volunteer. We especially ask our young adult population to help in this effort.

As noted above, I will be in contact with you again within a few days. Please feel free to share this email with your neighbors and fellow parishioners who may not receive it. As always, Keep the Faith, be patient and know that Fr. Chris, Deacon Matt, and I and the other priests are praying for you. Keep safe and healthy, and please pray for us. God bless, Fr. Richard Fitz

Queridos amigos y feligreses:

Padre Richard Fitz
