Fundraiser Update and Parish Finances

07-29-2018Pastor's LetterRev. Richard W. Fitzgerald, V.F.

Most of the stone replacement and repair work on the bell tower is complete and we should begin to see the removal of that portion of the scaffolding within the next couple of weeks. The repairs to the stained glass which has been removed from the Rose Window are ongoing and are expected to be completed by the end of August. In the meantime, repair of the exterior wood and copper frame of the window will be happening over the next couple of weeks.

We have raised $90,776 collected and $9,683 pledged toward a goal of $150,000. If you have not received a mailing, you may pick one up at the entrances of the church. A note from Father Fitzgerald about parish finances…

The emergency work on the church Rose Window and Bell tower has raised our awareness of the fact that the parish has no provision for funding unexpected facilities maintenance issues. The overwhelming majority of parishes in the Archdiocese have a monthly facilities maintenance second collection to cover such needs. Of the six parishes that I have been assigned to over the past 31 years, Saint Columbkille Parish is the only parish that does not have such a provision for special maintenance issues.

With support of our parish finance council and parish pastoral council, it has been decided that beginning in September, Saint Columbkille Parish will have a monthly second collection for Facilities Maintenance. The special envelope for this collection will be included in the envelopes mailed out for September. Hopefully, your generosity to this collection will enable the parish to keep pace with the ongoing maintenance issues of such a large and aging complex. Our ancestors built these buildings with much financial sacrifice. We have an obligation to maintain the legacy of their hard work and commitment by preserving what they left to us. Your generosity to this collection each month will be greatly appreciated.
