A New Saint

On Sunday, September 4, Pope Francis will canonize Mother Teresa of Calcutta at a Mass in Saint Peter’s Square in Rome. Her selfless dedication to the poorest of the world lives on in the religious order she founded, the Missionaries of Charity. Their ministry now is spread throughout the world, even in our own Archdiocese.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XV once said that in the midst of a world full of trouble and turmoil, we can look to the saints of every generation whom the Lord has raised up as examples of faith, hope, and charity. Along with the recently canonized Saint John XXIII and Saint John Paul II, and now Saint Teresa of Calcutta, we can rejoice in having known those examples in our own lifetimes, knowing that the Lord never abandons his Church.

A new priest resident… Last weekend we welcomed as a priest resident Fr. Carlo Calleja, a priest from Malta, who will be pursuing a Doctoral degree in Theology at Boston College for the next several years. Judging from the warm welcome he received, we can believe that he will be happy with us at Saint Columbkille’s.
